Numbers

0, Không - Kong
1, Một - Mot

Same as in English, you say “ty” as in twenty (20) or thirty. Vietnamese language does use the word Mươi (from 20 up) but you might confuse with the word mười. if you say that, sure we still understand you. It’s easy to remember, let say we use nr 21, we say “hai mươi mốt(pronounce as same like remote <– )” (hi mooi mote). Only the nr 1 (like 21, 31, 41….etc) is a little bit different when you say it, otherwise they all same. 22, hai mươi hai (hi mooi hi), and so on.

Number 5 is not always pronounce as Năm, as you sometimes hear people say “lăm” (lum - um as in number). So when you say it fast, 15 will be mười lăm - Mooi lum, 55 năm lăm, got that?

Hundred

The word chum means hundred, and basically you just need to add chum for each hundred. For example, 100 is một trăm (mot chum), 200, hai trăm (hi chum) and so on. Easy yeah?

300, Ba Trăm - ba chum
400, Bốn Trăm - Bawn chum

What about 101 or 385? Vietnamese language is simple, you can say different ways, but they will understand you more or less. 101 could be many as:

Một trăm lẻ một - mote chum le mote (lẻ works from 01 - 09, like 101, 206, 609 etc.)
Một trăm ling một (works same way as lẻ above)
Một trăm mốt (mote)
Trăm mốt (we skip the word một as we know trăm (chum) stands for hundred. You can say it with 100-199)

It doesn’t matter how you pronounce, as long you have the word “trăm”, then they understand you quite easy. And “ling” and “lẻ” is just a helper, to much it easy to listen too. Ling actually means zero in Chinese, and i do believe we “borrow” it. So 104 should be Trăm 100, ling 0, 4 bawn.

Thounsand

After Trăm (chum), we get to one thounsand, 1000, writes as Nghìn (from north of Vietnam, to Hue i think) which pronounce as nyeen. While from Hue to South of Vietnam, we say Ngàn.

1000 - Một nghìn/ngàn
2000 - Hai nghìn/ngàn
3000 - Ba nghìn/ngàn
4000 - Bốn nghìn/ngàn
5000 - Năm nghìn/ngàn
6000 - Sáu nghìn/ngàn
7000 - Bảy nghìn/ngàn
8000 - Tám nghìn/ngàn
9000 - Chín nghìn/ngàn
10.000 - Mười nghìn/ngàn

Same as hundred, you just need to add other numbers in, for instance 1450 will be
1000 - một nghìn/ngàn
400 -bốn trăm
50 -năm mươi
một nghìn/nghàn bốn trăm năm mươi

600.000 six hundred thounsand will be
sáu trăm nghìn/ngàn

Million
We have many millionaires in Vietnam, did you know that? 1.600.000vnd is about 100dollars. And một triệu means 1 million. Pronounce as chiew.

1.600.000 = một triệu sáu trăm nghìn/nghàn
But sometimes you only hear people say: triệu sáu ( 1tr 6)
